Facelift
What is a Facelift?
Aging and environmental factors cause the skin and tissues of the face and neck to sag and wrinkle. Facelift surgery, also known as “rhytidectomy,” improves signs of aging to restore a more youthful face, chin, and neck.
The benefits of a Facelift
- Feel more confident
- Look as young as you feel
- Appear more attractive and approachable
Achieved with Facelift Surgery
Diminished Fine Lines and Wrinkles
As the facial tissues are repositioned and excess skin is removed, facelift surgery diminishes fine lines and wrinkles to achieve smooth, youthful skin. This procedure improves creases below the lower eyelids and wrinkles around the nose, mouth, and chin, such as “smile lines,” “marionette lines,” and “smoker’s lines.”
Tighter Skin
Facelift surgery eliminates sagging skin in the midface and neck to restore a more attractive appearance. Once the facial tissues are uplifted, the skin is redraped over the new contours and excess skin is removed, leaving only taut, youthful-looking skin.
Improved Facial Contours
Fat often becomes displaced with age and may create jowls along the jawline and what appears to be a “double chin.” The facelift procedure removes or repositions these fat deposits and tightens the underlying muscles to produce more attractive and youthful facial structures.

FAQs
Who is a good candidate for facelift surgery?
Candidates for facelift surgery have wrinkles and loose skin on their face and neck. Ideal candidates are in good overall health, do not smoke, and do not have any medical conditions that impair hearing. Potential patients should be optimistic and have realistic expectations of the procedure.
What is the best age for a facelift?
Although most facelift patients are in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, individuals in their 70s and 80s can also benefit from the procedure with excellent results. Younger patients with significant signs of facial aging may be candidates for facelift surgery as well.
Where are the incisions placed for facelift surgery?
For the traditional full facelift, incisions are made within the hairline beginning at the temples that extend down and around the backs of the ears into the hairline in the lower scalp. A less invasive technique that uses shorter incisions may be used. The exact length and placement of the incisions will depend on your facial structure and the degree of correction needed.
What is the recovery like after facelift surgery?
After the procedure, your face will be bandaged, and you will be closely monitored in a recovery area. Drainage tubes may be placed to remove any blood or fluid that collects under the skin. Most patients return to work after approximately one week and can resume strenuous activities after about four weeks. Dr. Dubrow will give you specific instructions to follow during your recovery based on your individual needs.
How long will the results of facelift surgery last?
The more youthful appearance produced by a facelift is generally long lasting, and the face will continue to age naturally over time.
